A Phaeton typically is a 2 or 4 door sedan most likely with a
convertible top but lacks roll up windows. Not for the faint of
heart in winter, it was a trend that did not last but for a few
years in the mid 1930's.
On consignment, a restored 1937 Ford Phaeton. Beautiful condition
with no rust, some patina on the chrome, and a beautiful warm
interior. And because it's a Phaeton, there are no rollup windows
only side curtains which come with the car.
Exterior
With its curved v shape swept back horizontal ribbed grille and
teardrop headlights which are slowly evolving into one unit with
the fenders, this running board style car is bathed in Bright
Vineyard Green. Gently curving bulbous lines abound on this car,
with nice gaps and deep paint. A tan convertible top with a clear
glass window moves up and down effortlessly.
Interior
Wonderful warm wood pattern painted on the metal dash with aged
cream gauges and saddle brown vinyl bench seats for the front and
back and it just feels like an old friend. An original banjo style
steering wheel fronts all this warmth. Plus, you 're going to need
it if you venture out with no roll up windows to protect you!
Unrestored side curtains come with the car and will help keep out
the cold on a winter day. Beautiful clean warm carpet covers the
floors as well as stitched saddle brown vinyl covering all the door
and side interior panels. Like a cup of hot chocolate with some
marshmallow on top, sitting right next to the fireplace.
Drivetrain
The restored 221ci Flathead V8 is tucked neatly into a clean engine
bay and presents nicely. A single 2-barrel carburetor is on top
clean by an oil bath cleaner. There is a 3-speed manual
transmission on this car as well as a 3.78 rear axle.
Undercarriage
Also, the beneficiary of the restoration, no rust, and jet black
straight frame there appears to have some patching for the
floorpans but a fine job done on it. A clean X frame supports
strong rust-free body hangers. Mechanical drum brakes are on all 4
corners.
Drive-Ability
This old gal started right up and ran beautifully and smooth. It
has surprisingly good acceleration, nice handling and a smooth
ride, most likely due to these nearly new tires seen all
around.
A nice example very clean with no issues. Wonderful warm interior,
green contrasting exterior and a Flathead V8 with snappy power,
this is a nice car to grace us here at Classic Auto Mall.
