2003 Mercury Marauder
An old school definition of a Marauder is one who searches around
for something to steal. You might hear stories of someone who goes
through neighborhoods and breaks into cars, who travels around
looking for things to pilfer. This name has been put to a muscle
car which has been on and off produced by Mercury division. Its
name, supposedly meaning to steal a win from the competition with
regards to outperforming other vehicles. It has its loyal fans, and
most are of the male persuasion, which lay eyes on the car, and
instantly fall in love.
For consignment possibly your next affair will be driving this car
and keeping it for yourself. Super low miles (a mere 15,245) and it
shows as such. All draped in menacing black (Ebony) and in pristine
condition. A luxury version of a muscle car if you will, with all
the comforts of leather seating and plenty of conveniences, as well
as some serious performance power. Buckle up and let's go for a
descriptive ride!
Exterior
Black, on black, on black with black tinted windows best describes
this menacing looking car. Nearly not one spec of any shiny chrome
on this screamer, all black window trimmings, tinted windows,
integrated bumpers and black spoked wheels. This car is a bit scary
as it reminds me of the typical PA state police cruiser which I
have so burned into my mind, when I come up on one while driving,
like a pavlovian dog, I immediately slow down! A 4-door sedan, with
some black belt line trim, and engraved rear bumper badging we
could say black is the new black! And I did spot chrome in the form
of dual exhaust tips peeking out from underneath the rear
bumper.
Interior
With door panels that have plenty of power convenience buttons
integrated speakers and all black vinyl inserts the mystique and
love affair with black continues on the inside. Nice wide black
leather covered front buckets, have a slight patina and minor
creases in them showing usage, but not overuse. A center console
races forward from the rear bench and houses the shift lever. An
original dash fronts a multi button original airbag steering wheel
also in...black and has white faced gauges. Some curved faux
brushed aluminum panels are used to break up the black on the lower
dash, but otherwise we note black. Green digital readouts show up
in the AM/FM/CD radio, clock, and temp control panel. Just below in
the center dash hanging directly below the temp controls are an oil
and water gauge area, with a lighter. Nestled next to the steering
column is a Valentine One radar detector, an essential for a car as
such, especially if the driver has a heavy foot. Black carpet and a
tight black headliner with an upper console is seen on the top and
bottom of this nicely preserved interior.
Drivetrain
Under the hood is a 4.6 Liter DOHC 32 valve V8 fed by electronic
fuel injection. On back is a 4R70W 4-speed automatic transmission,
and a FORD 8.8-inch 3.55 rear axle. All is clean and shiny under
the hood and noted in the trunk is a NOS Sniper Nitrous bottle
which is currently not hooked up. Headers are also noted.
Undercarriage
Very clean and showroom new underneath. No rust and even some
existing factory markings. Independent coil springs are on the
front for suspension, and 4 link with coil springs for the rear.
The original air bag suspension has been removed. 4 wheel power
disc brakes are mounted and clean, and a Magnaflow exhaust is on
this car, presenting no rust and very shiny.
Drive-Ability
Nice acceleration, good braking, and lots of comfort, making him
question if it really is a muscle car...and it truly is with its
specs, and luxury conveniences to boot.
A low mileage example with some mods to add a slight fake move to
the purist, but overall nicely presenting. Plenty of power, and
well-kept certainly worth a look, and a few kicks of the tires. Who
knows you may just fall in love and begin your career as a
Marauder!
