While we are well known for Porsches, we are car nuts, and
honestly, we can't pass on rare time capsules as they rarely
surface. We most certainly have had some old survivors over the
years, and this Swedish beauty is simply amazing in it's all
original state.
The Amazon (so dubbed by the Swedes in homage to the Amasons, a
group Wikipedia describes as fierce female warriors from Greek
mythology) is essentially a more upright and practical drivable
Volvo compared to, let's say, the more sporty later P1800 examples.
Powered by the four-cylinder 1,778 cubic centimeter displacement
B18 from the factory, this is just charming to drive; it's all you
would ever need on your afternoon tour. Available in 2-door,
4-door, and station wagon the 122S most appreciated in this 2-door
version. The Amazon in its two-door configuration, with twin SU
carburetors and 122 horsepower, was a darling of international
rally competitors throughout Europe in the late 1950s and through
the 1960s. Full of 1960's amenities with full adjustable front
seats, three-point seat belts, dashboard grab handle, two speed
wipers, glove box light, and a cigarette lighter all lend to a
comfortably retro experience.
Sitting here in our showroom this Volvo is getting more attention
than many of the Porsches in house, and BTW not all of the Porsches
here are present on our website. Bottom line: This Volvo presents
incredibly well in its beautiful original color scheme, and I've
heard many of our visitors say as they look and admire, "go find
the other one".
