Gateway Classic Cars of Atlanta is proud to offer this stunning
1966 Pontiac GTO for sale. This GTO for sale has gone through an
extensive amount of restoration. Starting late Summer and going
through the Fall of 2016, the entire engine compartment was
completely restored back to original. The work was professionally
done by one of the National Concourse Judges for the 1966 GTO, the
President of the Southeast GTO Association as well as the cars
12-year owner. During the restoration process several pictures were
taken to verify the authenticity of this 1966 GTO. This is when the
engine number was verified and the XE engine was unique to the
California Car. The numbers matching 389 small block V-8 engine
still has the original rear main rope seal. Both the carburetor and
air cleaner assembly, with the enclosed system leading back to the
oil cap on the driver's side valve cover, are unique to the
California engine in this California GTO. There are several other
engine components that can easily be seen upon casual inspection.
Even the voltage regulator along with the engine coil are original.
Both exhaust manifolds are original, and the original throttle
cable is present and still maintains the red tape on its tip from
November 1965! The crown jewel of this motor, however, is the
original Air Injection Reactor (AIR) Emissions System. Most people
would remove this as it took away horsepower making this part very
rare and hard to find. This system has been deveined, so it will
not pull air as it originally did which compromised horsepower. The
factory 2-speed Super-Turbine 300 Automatic Transmission, power
steering, power brakes and Radio-Pushbutton have all been verified
and has full PHS documentation. With only 27,610 actual miles this
is truly a rare and valuable GTO. Painted in the factory Montero
Red showing R-R on the engine tag along with black trim (interior)
which was 223 on the engine tag. Several key things were pictured
during the restoration of the body such as the original chalk marks
that were written by the line workers building this GTO in the
factory. Another unique aspect that makes this GTO even more rare
is the fact it was built in the Pontiac, Michigan plant. It was
very uncommon for a California car to be produced outside of the
Fremont, CA plant and shipped to California with compliance
equipment installed. Any single attribute, whether being numbers
matching, a black plated CA car manufactured outside of the
Freemont plant or how it still maintains the Air Emissions System
all make for a rare GTO. Having all these attributes along with low
actual miles makes this 1966 GTO for sale extremely rare. The full
PHS documentation, original window sticker reproduced by Pontiac
Historic Services and the original license plate from original
Dealership the car was purchased are all included. Also 7 extra air
filters are included as they are very rare and hard to find. There
is way too much information about this car to be able to list
everything, so please call for more details. To view this car in
