For Sale: 1932 Packard 900 in Lake Oswego, Oregon

Vehicle Description

Located near PORTLAND, OREGON.
The Model 900 "Light Eight" was Packard's attempt to make a lower-priced car during the Great Depression, when luxury car sales were at a low. Priced at $1795 new (when a '32 Ford V8 Convertible was priced at $460!) the Packard was far from being a low-priced car. It's said that Packard lost money on every one that they sold, because they insisted on keeping the quality as high as their Standard Eights, Super Eights and Twelves. Thus, the Model 900 was produced for less than a year.

The styling, while keeping the traditional Packard lines, was set apart by the unique grille, dubbed the "Shovel Nose." It was Packard's first efforts at Art Deco streamlining, with an eye on a more youthful buyer.

While the early history of this Convertible Coupe in unknown, it received a full restoration some years ago and shows beautifully today. The body is straight with excellent panel fit and no rust. The black paint has a deep shine. All chrome was re-plated and is brilliant. Red wire wheels accent the interior which was reupholstered in red leather and is a knockout. Black Haartz cloth convertible top with red piping. Overall, a striking, sporty color combination.

Mechanically, this car is excellent. Powered by a rebuilt 320 cubic inch straight 8 engine, developing 110 horsepower, it runs smoothly and quietly. Excellent power. Mated to a 3-speed manual transmission with one-year-only "Freewheeling" (actuated by the red knob on the steering wheel.) New stainless steel exhaust system. The Packard 4-wheel mechanical brakes have been upgraded to modern HYDRAULIC BRAKES using the original backing plates. Neatly done and virtually unnoticeable, but stops on a dime. All gauges register accurately. Runs cool. A real pleasure to drive. Seat belts and turn signals added for safety in modern traffic. Needs nothing. Ready to go anywhere and enjoy now.

Recognized as a Classic Car Club of America Full Classic©, it qualifies for all of their events, shows and tours. It would also be welcome at Packard Club and Packard International events worldwide.
