For Sale: 1947 Cadillac Series 62 in Solon, Ohio

Vehicle Description

The Series 62 sedan was the first Cadillac model to resume production after World War II. The blending of quality, dependability and practicality in the Series 62 -- which began production in 1940 -- was then bolstered by engineering and technology developed during the war.  Two of these engines and transmissions were interconnected to power gasoline-driven Stuart tanks in WWII, further enhancing the power train’s reputation for durability and increasing its popularity.  In fact, the demand far outweighed the supply.

This CCCA Full Classic was acquired by the current owner in 2012; it came from North Carolina with minimal rust and wear, Over the next two years, several experts contributed to its restoration:

-frame-on body restoration and paint work by Pat Mattachione of Canton, Ohio

-interior work by Frank Konkoly of Hartville, Ohio
-engine rebuild and all components by Cadillac expert Brian Frost of Kent, Ohio

The 346 cu in V8 rebuilt engine has less than 10,000 miles.  The original Hydra-matic transmission was serviced and sealed during the restoration.  All restoration receipts and photographs are available, along with the service records since 1974.

The exterior is Cavern Green with a contrasting Pinehurst Green roof (both colors authentic for Cadillac in 1947), and all chrome and brightwork was re-chromed and polished.  The luxurious interior by Fleetwood is distinguished by the authentically reproduced walnut graining on the door panels, dashboard and rear passenger compartment.  The seats are upholstered in tan Bedford cord with contrasting leather piping, with the same on the sun visors.

All instruments on the dash are fully restored and functional, including the working clock.  Even the steering wheel has been beautifully restored. This lovely sedan is equipped with a myriad of options, including a working radio, heater/defroster unit, electric heater under the front seat for the comfort of the rear-seat passengers, glare-proof mirror, windshield washer’ backup light and wheel trim rings.  It also features window vents on both the front and rear windows.

Seat belts, new Diamondback radials and an auxiliary electric fan have been added to make this car tour-ready.  Interestingly, the original spare tire still rests in the trunk!  And the owner was so meticulous that he had pouches made for the wheel jack and handle so they wouldn’t rub against anything while stored in the trunk.

This Cadillac Sedan is as stunning today as when it was restored.  It is driven occasionally in seasonal weather and has received a CCCA Grand Classic Primary First in 2014 and a Grand Classic Senior Third in 2016.  The unique provenance of this classic is further enhanced by several letters from past owners and their families and its documented history. . . fascinating and sentimental additions to a very special automobile.
