Top of the line Star Chief. Not a perfect restoration but it
doesn't need to be, it's a beautiful car! It is also exceptionally
solid and straight.
EXTERIOR: The body is in excellent shape. it fits really nice, the
doors click shut. It is straight, no rust blisters or cracks that I
noticed. The paint is older, it has proven itself. Overall not a
perfect glass finish but it is glossy. The chrome on the car over
all is nice. There are some new pieces, some real good original
pieces and then there are a few pieces that need should be
replaced. The two bumperettes in front and two filler panels in the
continental kit are poor. It is decked out with goodies including
the continental kit, stainless skirts and lower 1/4s trim, fuel
door and door handle trim. The coolest feature is the airplane hood
ornament that has a lit up Indian head. The wire basket hubcaps are
a rare feature. Of course it has big whitewalls. The dual bands
that run down the hood are duplicated on top of the rear fins. It
has a power convertible white top in very good shape. The reverse
lights in back are optional too.
INTERIOR: The upholstery actually has all been redone- seats,
armrests, door panels are all in excellent condition. Seats feel
good and firm too. There are seat belts added to the front. Carpet
looks like it's been replaced. The instrument panel area is not
beat up, cut or broken. All the chrome trim, knobs, gauges are in
really nice shape. The painted metal is showing age. It has
optional tissue dispenser. luster has a tissue dispenser below the
dash. Visors are real nice, it has a day night mirror in excellent
shape.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Clean, orderly engine bay. Components look
proper. Has complete air cleaner assembly. The motor is painted
neatly, has original silver streak valve covers. It is the 287 V-8
with the optional 200 hp version. Has 4 barrel carb. It runs
smooth. Vacuum wipers were upgraded with electric.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Big trunk compartment! Solid metal. It has a
white wall tire that has never been on the ground, correct rubber
mat and there's a car cover.
UNDERSIDE: It appears to be very solid underneath. The whole center
section still shows the factory primer. Floor braces and floor pans
appear to be original. Some of the front end components look
replaced, not caked in grease. Bottom of the motor looks clean too.
The hydramatic transmission has recently been rebuilt. New exhaust
with a glasspack style muffler. In back it has coilover shocks and
spring helpers.
If you want a top of the line 50s convertible without spending a
small fortune, here is the car for you. Not pristine but will still
get compliments anywhere you take it!
