Vehicle Description
1959 Mercedes-Benz 300d Adenauer 4-door Hardtop. This Mercedes was
owned by a serious Texas collector and oilman. This W186 was the
company's largest and most prestigious automobile of that era. It
was the Maybach of its day - elegant, powerful, exclusive, and
expensive. Three versions were produced in succession. Also
referred to as a "Type 300", the 186 was equal in features and
price, but far superior in performance to the rival Rolls-Royce
Silver Cloud. Technology advanced, the Adenduar was regarded as the
"driver's car", sharing numerous design innovations and mechanical
components with the iconic Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing, including
engine, suspensions, and chassis. This limousine length 300d was
very limited production automobile and this later model 300d
featured sweeping changes that involved revised bodywork, fuel
injection and a unique hardtop configuration transforming it into a
pillarless phaeton. This Medium Red DB 516 car with all NEW Beige
Nappa leather interior was purchased by the former owner/collector
at the Gooding Company of Pebble Beach, California for his Texas
collection. It comes complete with a 4-inch binder with the
original owner's paperwork, all correspondence, full maintenance
records, original manuals, tools, and storage bags for rear quarter
windows. It is mechanically perfect and recently had all new brakes
including master cylinder and brake booster. This engine develops
180 hp. This W186 6-cylinder 300d comes w/ a 50-page history binder
of this classic with its complete service records. Overseas
delivered from Daimler-Benz in Stuttgart on March 10, 1959, to a
wealthy San Francisco couple. The selling dealer was Paramount
Motors Inc. in San Francisco. It was equipped with Becker Mexico
radio, Ivory steering wheel, power steering, automatic antenna,
windshield washer, and two reclining seats. All numbers on engine
and chassis are matching and all service records/oil changes from
day 1 are contained and laminated in the Gooding Presentation
Binder. Owner one sold this car in 1978 to a new owner in Palo
Alto, CA. They moved it to their winter home in Naples, FL until my
customer purchased it from Gooding And Company in 2018. We have
maintained this classic Adenauer for the past 2 years. It runs as
nicely as she looks. We have installed all new plug wires, new
spark plugs, $15,000 worth of new light beige Nappa leather,
including new front cover hydes, rear seat hydes, newly covered
door panels, center, and quarter panels, plus all-new headliner.
Other additions are re-vatted gas tank, newly rebuilt brake
booster, master cylinder from White Horse restoration, fuel pump,
transmission mount, fuel filter (OE) ignition coil, rotor,
distributor cap, newly rebuilt original clock, and refinished
mahogany wood. The deep red German glasurit paint is impeccable as
is the chrome, carpet, and glass. Show or drive this immaculate
classic. This limited production Classic Mercedes 300d Adenauer
will do nothing but appreciate in time.
