Looking beyond the amazing effort during WWII, Willys determined a market was there for the military Jeep to America outside of the U.S. Military. Advertised as a "Powerhouse on Wheels," the first civilian Jeep model, the CJ, was marketed as the ideal vehicle for deliveries, in construction or on farms. The American public embraced the early civilian Jeep and these iconic vehicles remain popular today.
The Jeep presented at auction is a fine, restored example with some upgrades. The original flathead "Go Devil" 60 Horsepower engine needed replacing and was upgraded with the next generation 72 horsepower "Hurricane" overhead valve Engine. The motor was rebuilt to factory specifications and runs very well. The installation of the later model engine made it necessary to install the later model hood scoop to accommodate the taller engine.
The rest of the jeep is entirely stock, with much rebuilt including all new front end components, new brakes, wheel cylinders, wheel seals and steering box. The dash benefits from new gauges and speedometer and the signals and horn work well. Lots of parts invoices are available with the car.
The Jeep rides on 4 brand new Mud Gap tires. Enhancements under the hood and the chassis makes this Jeep run and drive like a new one.
