Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is excited to offer this
nasty supercharged Pro Touring 1968 Chevrolet Camaro for sale.
Painted a classic black with dark silver metallic stripes that
appear to change colors depending on the lighting angle (ranging
from gray, to dark silver, to a golden hue), this '68 Camaro is
unlike most that you'll find. This Camaro was purpose-built to run
the 2013 Hot Rod Power Tour. Its owner started with building it to
run the Power Tour, and specifically wanted a massive blower
sticking out of the hood. Don Hampton custom built the polished GMC
8-71 Roots-style blower for the owner's stated engine specs.
Beginning with a Dart "M" block with a standard 454 CID bore, it
was topped with ported and polished Dart "Big Chief" heads with
.440 intake and .424 exhaust valves. A custom set of Keith Black
8.2:1 forged pistons and a Lunati custom-ground blower cam with
110-degree lobe separation move the highly compressed air through
this big mill. Twin Holley 950 CFM carbs top the huge blower, and
custom headers scavenge the exhaust gases into the Borla dual
exhaust with its menacing quad tip tail pipes. This thing just
sounds completely wicked, and it runs like a scalded cat. Spark is
enhanced by an MSD 6BTM (with cockpit-mounted boost retard
controller) and delivered through a set of gigantic Moroso spark
plug wires. The massive 454 is kept running cool by a huge BeCool
aluminum radiator with its twin electric Spal fans. A March
serpentine belt system handles driving the accessories. The
purpose-built 4-speed 700R4 automatic transmission, capable of
handling up to 1500 horsepower, is equipped with a lockup torque
convertor (with a cockpit mounted lockup controller) which provides
enhanced drivability for the various segments of the Power Tour's
driving challenges. The 700R4 sends power to a Dana 40 rear end,
which is equipped with a TruTrac limited slip differential and
4.10:1 gears. With the 700R4, the 4.10:1 ratio is near perfect for
getting the hard launches needed in the drag strip segments of the
Power Tour, yet still maintaining excellent highway drivability.
Speaking of challenges, the Mickey Thompson M/T Sportsman SR
radials at all 4 corners (26x8.00R15LT up front, 31x18.00R15LT in
back) are mounted on custom ordered Cragar mags. To meet the
builder's custom specs for the rears, he had Cragar build a custom
sized set of wheels for the rear. It took Cragar three tries before
everything matched up perfectly for the owner's needs. When one
peers through the Cragars, they'll see the smooth stopping slotted
Strange Engineering rotors and calipers at all 4 corners, which
help this car haul down from race speeds safely and quickly. Since
this Pro Touring '68 Camaro was designed for the Power Tour, it
needed to be both capable in every driving segment, and it needed
to provide excellent comfort for the driver and passenger. Inside,
you'll find a custom black interior. With a complete set of
AutoMeter ProComp gauges (speedo, tach, oil pressure, water temp,
volts, fuel) in the dash behind the tilt steering wheel, knowing
what's going on up in the engine bay is never an issue. The custom
console is equipped with a boost gauge right up front, cupholders
for the passengers, and a storage compartment (that serves to make
up for the loss of the glove compartment). A set of high-back
Corbeau racing seats and RJS harnesses keep the driver and
passenger both comfortable on long drives, as well as solidly
anchored in their places. The roll cage adds to the safety of the
occupants. The AM/FM/CD/USB Pioneer head unit sends the tunes to a
giant Kicker amp that's mounted on the custom speaker enclosure
behind the seats. The cold air conditioning further adds to
occupant comfort when it's hot outside. This supercharged Pro
Touring 1968 Chevrolet Camaro is ready to run its next Power Tour
for sure! Additional features and options on this custom 1968
Chevrolet Camaro for sale include cold Air Conditioning, Aluminum
Wheels, AM/FM/CD/USB Radio, Cloth Interior, Kill Switch, Power
Brakes, Power Steering, Radial Tires, Seat Belts, and Tilt Steering
