Since the initial debut of the Ford factory built wagon Ford was the leader in the station wagon market and in 1940 Ford produced the only wagon on the market with a V-8 engine under the hood. The craftsmanship that went into building these wagons is legendary and the outstanding styling of the 1940 models has kept this particular version of the woody at the top of the list for collectors for decades. Woodie wagons were never produced in great quantities and the attrition rates were high due to their utilitarian use. When they gained huge popularity in the 60s as surfer wagons the trend for modifying them as hot rods was launched and today most of the ones that have survived have been modified.
